The Holy and Divine Vestry
So at Lovett it is almost the cool thing to do to be in Vestry. It seems like tons of people sign up to be in vestry every year at club day. And yet, what to members of the Vestry do? Well the answer is simply this: they get to go on the Vestry Retreat. The Retreat is a faith building retreat that is generally a lot of fun. Now I have some beef with it to but we can chat about that at another time. But if that is all that the vestry does, who then are the people that lead the retreat and who cary the cross and candel in chaple, and who reads the bible verses? Well those are the Vestry Officers. Who must be better than the rest of us some how. And how does one go about becomeing an officer you might ask? Well let me solve world hunger and then I'll get back to you because I have absolutly no idea. And it bothers me to no end becuase half the officers are out parting every weekend. But I digress. My basic point is this: why not make the vestry more than just the retreat? It has the potential to do huge things but, none the less.
What is Up with Assemblies these Days?
So what is up with Assemblies these days? I mean half the people are usually asleep or otherwise not paying any atteniton. What is up with Assemblies these days? We have strange speakers talking about something we dont want to hear about. What is up with assemblies these days? And then we go over the school rules as if we have forgotten almost every week. What is up with assemblies these days? And then we have twenty slide shows about peoples summer (as if we care). What is up with assemblies these days? And then they spend an hour teaching us how to turn a computer on. What is up with assemblies these days?
Well, frankly, I dont know. I think they are making a vallient effort to get speakers that will appeal to the students as well as getting as many students as they can on stage. I just think they should do something every once in a while to mix things up, see if anyone really is awake. Maybe in the middle of a speach make fun of a teacher who is usually asleep. Or better yet, do a fun assembly. Maybe a collection of funny skits (that were rehursed). Maybe have a mini variety show, or even better, a dance off. Maybe show the current play. Have a comidian come in. Now theres an idea... colleges get presidents to speak, why cant we get the mayor, or a local improv group. Anything ... just try once and a while to wake us up!

Middle School ... seriously kids
So there is something seriously disfunctional with the Lovett Middle School. I mean, I had so much fun in middle school. Because school wasnt so hard I had time to do things that I wanted to do. But it seems like everyone I talk to that has gone through Lovett's Middle School has a an eating disorder or an addiction of some kind. And it is continually reffered to as the worst time in peoples life. And then, somehow magically, it seems that when someone hits the 9th grade, everything is fine again. People becomes friends again and everything is just huncky dory. It is another one of those things that I just might never understand.

No More Swiss Steak!
Well today we had probably one of the best lunches ever: chicken and cheese trio with funnel cake for desert. The only thing better than is Fried Ravioli, Itallian Ice, and Lovett Chicken Noodle Soup. And guess what, that is tomorrow.
That may give you the impression that Lovett has really good food. Which for the most part they do. Most people dont think so but in comeing from a school where the Food Service was shutdown by the local TV health inspector, I think it is pretty good. However something happened last year, something I may never be able to explain...
All I know is someone, who I might add is no longer at Lovett, decided we needed healthier food. Great, whatever that usually means they swich out the butter for margiren becuase it has less fat, even though butter is really better for you. This time they went all out and changed all bread to whole wheat. Boy did that raise a storm with the Lovett Community. I really didnt understand becuase I eat whole weat all the time at home and it really didnt bother me.
Trouble came last week when they started trying new recipes (something I think they should do because they do too much of the same stuff). First it was Melted Chicken and Cheese on a Bun. It was bad, but I can put up with a bad one every once in a while. But then there was the Swiss Steak. Might sound apatizing but, think again. It was terible... probably the worst thing I have ever eaten.
So this has been a lot of ranting and I guess there is not much point other than that of, if anyone from Lovett reads this, I beg you, stop the maddness. No more Swiss Steak!
