"Stand up and do what is right"

We had a prayer service the other night for the troops in Iraq. That is correct ladies and gentleman, a prayer service. I was very excited to say the least. Lovett is not a Christan school (more on that later) and they are almost afraid to use the J word. The prayer service was a great way to recognize the troops from families at Lovett. It was overall a great service with a wonderful message from both Rev. Allen and Mr. Peebles. Now they made sure right off the bat to assure us that this service was in no way showing support of the war or the current administation. But we can excuse that for the moment. One bit I do have a problem with though is this: it was poorly attended and I tell you why. Not only was it happening durring a college event, the student were not informed in anyway about the service. I check the anouncements every day and the service was never mentioned. I would think that kind of thing would be in the annoucements. Its almost like they didnt want people to come. But everything else was wonderful. One thing that really stuck out to me was Rev.'s message. He was talking about putting this service together and dealing with all the potholes that they would encounter with such a contriversial issue. Rev. Allen said that they were even considering not doing it until Mr. Peebles came in and said this: "sometimes you just have to take a risk and stand up and do what you know is right." Wow! Very strong words, and I commend him for them. I would like him to stand up more often but I was really proud of him.
